Helpful Lawn Care Tips

Imagine a beautiful evening with the company of your loved ones and a cup of coffee in your lawn.  Such a beautiful thing, right?  Every one of us, at one point in time, has dreamed of having a beautiful lawn where can sit, chat and spend some quality time with our family. Having such lawn is not actually difficult to achieve.  With the exercise of easy maintenance procedures, you can easily have a lawn that is envied by neighbors and passers-by.  This article will provide you with pieces of useful information and simple tips on lawn care.

First Things First

Lawn care, as a process, can be simplified by considering a few things while planning to “build” it.

1. Create the border of your lawn with the use of bricks and plant beds.

2. For easy maintenance and cost efficiency, choose to have a smaller lawn.

3. consult experts to help you choose the most suitable grass for the kind of soil in your lawn.

Tips in Fertilizing

* Different types of grasses need to be fertilized on different parts of the year. Warm-season lawn grasses are best fertilized in May, while cool-season ones in March or April.

* Choose a fertilizer that is slowly absorbed for better grass growth.

* Always read instructions and precautions that come with every fertilizer.

* It is best that you apply fertilizers when the grass is wet as moisture will enable granules to better stick to the turf.

* Prior to using fertilizers, check if rain won’t come in the next 48 hours.  Rain will wash out fertilizer granules and put your efforts to waster.

* Water the lawn before applying fertilizer and avoid doing it for the next 24 hours after such administration.

Tips in Mowing

Mowing is a process that entails cutting grass in even heights to make the lawn look neat.  This can be done by using a mechanical lawn mower.  Outlined below are a few tips in mowing:

* Before buying a mower, make a study and an evaluation of your current mowing needs.

* Mower blade height is dependent on the type of grass in your lawn.  Therefore, consider this point first before your set the height of your blade.

* To easily set the preferred blade height, position your mower on a flat surface.

* You can also raise the height of your mower blade up to one-third of the recommended setting if you want.

* Leave chopped grass in the lawn.  They convert themselves into useful nutrients when decomposed.

With these simple tips, you can efficiently keep your lawn beautiful.  Investing at least an hour of your weekend to lawn care will help you maintain a turf that everybody will appreciate.

Services Offered by Lawn Care Providers

As in any industry, lawn care companies differ from each other with the kind of program and services that they are offering. Lawn care companies do not only vary according to cost, but to standard and optional agronomic services as well. The cost for a standard program, the services that make up the standard program, and types and cost of optional services also change from one company to another.  Because of this, homeowners find it difficult to choose the right provider. This then creates the need for proper planning in order to create an impression of having the best lawn.

Standard and Optional Lawn Care Services

Fertilization is perhaps the most common ingredient in any lawn care program. Most lawn care companies offer pre-emergence and post-emergence weed control as part of their standard program while others treat these as optional services.  Most lawn care services also include the control of surface-feeding insects in their standard package while grub control is usually offered at an extra cost.

Insect control is not usually offered by most companies, but some provide this kind of lawn care service at an extra cost.  Also, most standard lawn care companies do not include disease control while other companies offer this as an optional service, requiring a homeowner to cash out more money.

Providing the Extra Mile

Reputable lawn care companies acknowledge that lawn quality will vary from time to time due to changes in weather.  Therefore, it is impossible for them to assure you that no lawn care issues will arise if you contact them.  Because of this, such companies extend lawn care services that they know will keep their customers satisfied. If a customer is not satisfied with a particular service, some providers offer corrective applications for free.  To handle customer calls, other companies employ sales/service representatives who may also visit homeowners if the latter’s concerns are not resolved over the phone.
